According to a report of Home Safety Council, nearly 2000 infants die every year resulting from accidental home injury. There are more cases of babies under one year who die of injury. The four major causes due to which babies die every year are falling from different places such as staircase, drowning, suffocation and burns from different sources such as heater, geysers etc.
The major cause of injuries to the babies is falling due to several reasons. Babies fall due to several reasons such as staircases, baby walkers, parents keeping their babies unattended in carriers. Out of these most number of cases arises due to baby walkers. Around 4000 babies are admitted to the hospital due to walker related injuries. Avoid using baby walkers to keep your baby safe.
Many infants die every year due to suffocation. Suffocation arises when parents sleep with their babies in bed, using unsafe pillows and blankets, unusual eating practices such as giving baby coin like things to eat, etc. Don’t sleep with your baby in bed instead attach a crib in the side of bed and put your baby in it. Giving grapes, popcorns to your babies may block their wind pipe. Instead, cut food into pieces and then give your baby to eat.
Many infants die every year due to drowning. In order to avoid drowning keep the lids of toilets closed so that babies can’t enter into toilet. Try to avoid using bath tub for your baby.
Many babies die every year due to burns from different sources. These sources are using very hot water heater, sipping off coffee and playing with your baby at the same time and using old smoke alarm. Keep room heater at low heating atmosphere, don’t play with baby and sip coffee at the same time and get proper servicing of your smoke alarm done in order to keep your baby safe.
